How Far in Advance Should You Order a Military Party Shirt?

How Far in Advance Should You Order a Military Party Shirt?

Short answer: as early as you can. Longer answer: it depends on what you're asking for.

Every Party Shirt is handmade, and depending on your order, it might also need sourced fabric, a custom design, or both. None of that happens overnight, so the timeline changes based on how custom you're going.

The Three Starting Points

You send your own shirt and fabric.
This is the fastest path. There's no sourcing to wait on, just construction. Even so, handmade work takes time to do right, so don't wait until the week of your event.

We source the fabric for you.
If you want a specific commercial fabric, we need to find it, order it, and wait for it to arrive before work can start. Add the fabric supplier's shipping time on top of production time.

You want a completely custom design.
This is the longest lead time. Custom artwork means working with a real designer, not AI-generated art, to create something original, then refining it with you before it ever touches fabric. Design revisions take back and forth. Build that conversation into your timeline, not just the sewing.

A Rough Timeline

  • Own shirt + own fabric: the shortest turnaround, but still needs real production time
  • Sourced fabric: production time plus fabric shipping and sourcing time
  • Custom design: design preview and revisions, plus production time, plus any fabric sourcing on top

Stack enough of those together, a dining in with a custom fabric design, say, and you're looking at the longest end of the process. That's why we recommend starting the conversation the moment you know your event date, not the moment you remember it's coming up.

Rush Processing Exists, But It's Not a Guarantee

Life happens, and sometimes an event sneaks up on you. Rush processing may be available depending on materials on hand and our current production schedule, but it isn't something to plan around. It's a safety net, not a strategy.

What Actually Eats Up Time

If your order is taking longer than you expected, it's rarely the sewing. It's usually one of these:

  • Sourcing a specific fabric that isn't sitting in stock anywhere
  • Waiting on design revisions to get approved
  • APO/FPO shipping, which takes longer than domestic shipping and should be factored in separately

The Simple Rule

If you know the event, a ball, a dining-in, a retirement, a promotion, order the day you know the date. If you're still deciding what you want, start a design preview early. It costs less to plan ahead than to pay for a rush.

Have an event on the calendar? Reach out and tell us what you're picturing. We'll help you figure out timing based on what you actually need, not a generic estimate.
